Chloride City is a ghost town that dates from the 1870's with not a whole lot left there, just some old run down buildings, foundations, grave sites, and mines. There are also some great views of Death Valley from the Chloride Cliffs, which are just up the hill. You can reach Chloride City in two different ways-- either by driving a 4WD vehicle in, or by hiking up from the Keane Wonder Mill parking area (which takes at least three hours and is a bit risky). Even though there's not a lot left to see at Chloride City, it's still a great historical place to see and visit. It's also a cool place to get dropped off, so that you can do the entire hike downhill to Keane Wonder Mill.  I've done the hike in both directions several times with friends, and you can read more about the risks and challenges of that in the Big Bell Trip Report section.

The view of Death Valley from the Chloride Cliffs is outstanding:
This picture was taken on the Cable Road in between Big Bell Mine and Chloride City.  We were getting close to the top and Big Bell Mine (red circles) kept getting smaller:
I hiked all the way down from the Chloride Cliffs to the bottom of Chloride City to check out this sign, thinking it would have the ghost town's name on it.  But there was nothing:
This is one of the few structures still standing in Chloride City, left over from the more modern era:
James McKay's grave site is in the city.  Not a whole lot is known about Mr. McKay's life:
This picture shows an old rusty abandoned car and our dog Floribel playing in the snow of Chloride City:
As you can see in this final picture, Tiffany and Steve were freezing up at this high elevation of around 4,840 feet:
